On April 16 2013, Houston, Texas' mayor Annise D. Parke honored Archie Bell, Lucious Larkins, and James Wise of Archie Bell and The Drells with a proclamation of Archie Bell and The Drells Day.

Lucious Larkins was born in Jacksonville, Florida. As a teenager, Lucious performed with teen gospel group “The Biven Special” on peacock recording label. At 14, Larkins left the group to form an R&B duo, Ron and Lucious. The duo signed with two promoters, Queen Booking Agency in New York and Super Sonic attraction of Atlanta, Georgia. Ron and Lucious began to open for various top groups of the 70’s and caught the attention of Archie bell and The Drells. The duo became the opening act for Archie Bell and The Drells and Larkins later became a member of that group until his retirement.
